EmberGreen Peaker Project
“The $1.8 billion peaker power plant will have a significant impact on the growing economy of Wharton County for years to come. It will expand the tax base, enlarge payrolls and drive revenues for a host of local businesses.” Frank Wilson – VP, Construction, EmberClear
EmberClear is developing EmberGreen, a 1GW natural gas-fired, simple-cycle peaker power plant in Wharton County, Texas. The facility will provide flexible, reliable generation to meet growing electricity demand and support the integration of wind and solar power across the ERCOT grid.
The project has strong local community support and will be constructed on a 316-acre site adjacent to Interstate 69 and a rail line. Approved school district tax incentives and proposed county incentives together total more than $50 million, supporting an investment expected to create jobs and generate substantial business activity. EmberGreen’s fuel supply strategy combines access to major natural gas pipelines with planned connections to additional pipelines and the Tres Palacios gas storage facility. Kinder Morgan and Gulf South pipelines cross the property, providing a strong foundation for reliable fuel supply during summer and winter peak demand.
The facility will connect to the ERCOT grid through an on-site substation and a nearby CenterPoint Energy 138 kV transmission line. Designed for full winterization and flexible operation, EmberGreen will use efficient turbine technology and evaporative inlet cooling during extreme heat to support performance while limiting water consumption.
EmberGreen has secured its TCEQ air quality permit and executed an interconnection agreement. An EPC contract has been negotiated on an exclusive basis, and EmberClear is working with investors to advance equipment procurement and complete financing in preparation for construction.
