Spring Run Energy
Spring Run Energy Project
Spring Run Energy is a planned natural gas-fired power project on an 85-acre site in the Milroy District of Grant County, West Virginia. Located approximately 80 miles from Ashburn, Virginia, and within two hours of Washington, D.C., the project is strategically positioned near Northern Virginia’s “Data Center Alley.”
The site is close to three major Columbia Gas interstate pipelines and Mon Power’s 500 kV transmission system. Access via U.S. Route 220 and West Virginia Route 259, along with existing water storage tanks, an electrical connection, and an access road, provides a strong foundation for development.
The project will work with the County to make necessary improvements to the water system, explore opportunities to bring natural gas service to the area, and help improve local infrastructure. It is expected to create high-paying jobs and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue for the local community. The site will maximize the use of existing infrastructure and rights-of-way rather than create unnecessary new corridors through private property.
Spring Run is in the early stages of development, pursuing the necessary approvals and permits, with plans to enter the PJM interconnection queue in 2027. Project will use modern natural gas combined-cycle generation technology and incorporate modern emissions-control equipment to comply with applicable federal and West Virginia air-quality standards and permitting requirements. Spring Run's water requirements are expected to be a fraction of the volumes commonly associated with agricultural irrigation and other water-intensive industrial activities.
Dominion Energy Virginia is seeking approximately 7 GW of dispatchable generation through its procurement process, including eligible projects in West Virginia. Spring Run’s location and access to natural gas and transmission infrastructure position it as a promising candidate for a long-term power purchase agreement, subject to competitive selection and completion of development milestones.
